The Batman shows the journey of Bruce Wayne who is in his second year as the Caped Crusader. He becomes a criminal hunter who is feared by the villains in Gotham. On a Halloween night, Gotham Mayor Don Mitchell Jr. was found dead at the hands of a mysterious serial killer.
The killer called himself The Riddler. Batman then investigated the death with the Gotham police and Lieutenant James Gordon (Jeffrey Wright). They found a message from The Riddler addressed to Batman. The victims of The Riddler's murder increased after Police Commissioner Pete Savage (Alex Ferns) was also found dead and left another message for Batman.
When launching his mission, The Riddler always left messages containing puzzles that had to be solved by Batman with the help of James Gordon. After tracing the mysterious messages from The Riddler, they found a photo of Mayor Mitchell with a woman named Annika at the Iceberg Lounge nightclub.
The place was operated by Oswald 'Penguin' Cobblepot (Colin Farrell). Penguin was the trusted person of the Gotham mafia boss, Carmine Falcone (John Turturro). Batman tried to find out the story behind the photo by approaching Penguin. Unfortunately, he didn't get any answers at all.

On the other hand, The Riddler continued to hunt and kill important people in Gotham, including Gotham District Attorney Gil Colson. This made Batman continue to hunt The Riddler by constantly trying to unravel every puzzle he made.
But the hunt also led Batman to a clue that revealed Gotham's big secret and his family's past. The Batman carries the story of Bruce Wayne and is in a different universe from the DCEU universe. The film was previously going to star Ben Affleck. But he resigned and his position was replaced by Robert Pattinson. Affleck also stepped down from the director's chair, replaced by Matt Reeves.
