But then one day, he saves Ray Embrey (Jason Bateman), a PR specialist. Hancock's initially half-hearted help turns out to be a blessing in disguise for him.
Ray is so grateful that he offers to help spruce up Hancock's image. Hancock joins Ray at his home, meeting his son Aaron (Jae Head) and wife Mary (Charlize Theron).
Ray's first step to rehabilitating Hancock's image is to have him issue a public apology. Hancock is also asked to cool his heels in jail for a bit until LA really needs his services.
Hancock is initially reluctant but eventually agrees to the stint behind bars. He struggles to adjust to prison life thanks to his high-flying ego.
After a while in the clink, Hancock gets threatened by a couple of inmates. Holding back isn't exactly his strong suit, so he ends up giving them a taste of his super punch.

Ray pays Hancock a visit, urging him to keep his cool. He accidentally lets slip that Hancock could be in the slammer for 8 years, which sends our super guy into a rage, itching to break out.
Ray calms him down again, encouraging him to stick with the plan. Meanwhile, Mary and Aaron drop by to bring some home-cooked comfort.
Fast forward a few weeks, and crime rates in Los Angeles are on the rise. The government has no choice but to call on Hancock, springing him from the big house to save the day.
