Some time after the events at the end of Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021) in Oklahoma, the Spengler family returns to New York City. They continue running the Ghostbusters business once operated by their predecessors.
They also use the original Ghostbusters headquarters and the old car, even though these often cause discomfort during missions.
Phoebe (Mckenna Grace) is very enthusiastic about her role as part of the Ghostbusters, feeling that her scientific abilities are finally put to good use.
Meanwhile, Trevor (Finn Wolfhard) is dealing with the turbulence of puberty and tries his best to avoid his duties as a Ghostbuster, believing he's outgrown them.
Callie (Carrie Coon) and Gary (Paul Rudd) are still adapting to their new family dynamic and professional responsibilities—especially since Gary used to be Phoebe's teacher before becoming involved with Callie.
Amid the family's individual struggles, they also face constant issues during their missions, ranging from equipment malfunctions and near-traffic accidents to problems concerning Phoebe.
Phoebe’s position as a Ghostbuster is jeopardized when authorities discover that she is underage for such a role in the ghost-hunting agency.
She is told she must wait until she turns 17 before she can officially participate. If not, the Ghostbusters face being shut down for violating regulations.
Now entering adolescence, Phoebe struggles to control her emotions, further complicating the already tense situation.
Meanwhile, Ray Stantz, now retired from Ghostbusting and running an occult shop, receives a mysterious item from a man named Nadeem.
Nadeem claims that the item—a copper sphere—was an heirloom from his grandmother and he chose to sell it to make money.

Ray senses something is off about the metal ball, especially when it emits strange effects during testing. He decides to keep it and investigate further.
Elsewhere, feeling isolated due to the age restrictions, Phoebe befriends a ghost named Melody, who died in a fire. The two start to form a bond.
At the same time, the mysterious metal sphere brought by Nadeem draws the attention of the Ghostbusters. However, they are unaware that the sphere contains an evil entity capable of terrorizing humanity and potentially plunging Earth into a second ice age.
Now, the multigenerational Ghostbusters team must face the terrifying creature to prevent human extinction
