The story of Nosferatu begins when a young Ellen Hutter (Lily-Rose Depp) makes a desperate plea in the early 1800s. She prays to no longer be lonely.
Her tearful request awakens a mysterious creature, who forces Ellen to make an eternal vow to him.
The story then shifts to the year 1838, where Ellen is now an adult and married to Thomas Hutter (Nicholas Hoult). The couple lives in the town of Wisburg, Germany.
One day, Thomas receives a job assignment from his employer, Herr Knock (Simon McBurney), to handle the sale of a property known as Grünewald Manor. The estate is intended for a reserved and mysterious man named Count Orlok (Bill Skarsgård).
Thomas tells Ellen about the job offer, but she begs him to stay home. Her plea is fueled by a series of strange and disturbing dreams she's been having—visions that seem to foretell death.
Despite her concern, Thomas insists on going, claiming it is for the betterment of their future. Before leaving, he entrusts Ellen to the care of his friends, Friedrich Harding (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) and Anna Harding (Emma Corrin), along with their two children.
Thomas promises to write letters regularly and sets off for Orlok's residence. Upon arriving in the Carpathians in Transylvania, Thomas is shunned by the locals for associating with Count Orlok. One night, he witnesses a group of Romani people digging up a grave and driving stakes into a corpse believed to be a vampire.
The next day, he finds the village eerily deserted and discovers his horse has vanished. Undeterred, he continues his journey to Count Orlok's castle to discuss the property sale.
Their dinner meeting turns unsettling when Thomas accidentally cuts himself and suddenly faints. When he awakens, he finds mysterious bite marks on his chest.
At the same time, Orlok steals a locket containing a strand of Ellen's hair. The situation takes a darker turn when Count Orlok boards a ship bound for Wisburg, bringing with him a horde of plague-ridden rats.
Driven by a long-standing obsession with Ellen, Orlok sets sail to claim her. However, fulfilling that dark desire won’t be easy, as numerous obstacles await to stand in his way.
