The story is set on the island of Berk, a rugged and windswept village that serves as home to a community of Vikings. This isolated land has witnessed generations of conflict between the Viking people and the dragons that roam the skies.
According to local legend, the villagers have long been plagued by dragon attacks. These creatures frequently swoop down to steal livestock, damage property, and endanger the lives of the inhabitants. As a result, nearly every Viking grows up despising dragons, and dragon-hunting becomes not just a tradition, but a way of life.
Among them is Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III (Mason Thames), a 15-year-old boy and the only son of the village chief, Stoick the Vast (Gerard Butler). Despite his lineage, Hiccup is considered too weak and scrawny to join the dangerous hunts. His small frame and lack of brute strength make him an unlikely warrior in the eyes of the other Vikings.
Determined to prove himself, Hiccup decides to rely on his ingenuity rather than his muscles. He designs a unique weapon intended to bring down dragons from a distance.
During one attack, he uses the device to strike and supposedly down a rare and elusive species known as the Night Fury—a dragon so fast and mysterious that few have even seen it. However, when Hiccup tells the others of his accomplishment, no one believes him.

Eager to prove the truth, Hiccup sets out to track the injured Night Fury. Yet, when he finally finds the creature, he cannot bring himself to kill it. In a surprising twist, the Night Fury—though capable of ending Hiccup’s life in an instant—chooses not to harm him either.
Fate brings them together again in a hidden cove, where Hiccup discovers that the dragon cannot fly due to a torn tail fin caused by his weapon.
Over time, the boy and the dragon form a cautious bond. Hiccup names him *Toothless* and even crafts a prosthetic tail fin, allowing them to soar through the skies together—Hiccup riding on the dragon’s back in a breathtaking partnership.
This unlikely friendship begins to shift Hiccup’s perspective. He starts to believe that dragons are not inherently dangerous and that humans and dragons can coexist peacefully. But convincing the rest of Berk, especially his proud and stubborn father, will be a challenge.
What follows is a thrilling journey of discovery, courage, and trust, as Hiccup and Toothless face dangers together, deepen their friendship, and slowly begin to change the hearts and minds of an entire island.
